In honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10, Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) today announced a $1.5 million commitment to continue its national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The funding will expand trauma-informed care training across local Clubs nationwide, helping Club professionals create healthy, supportive spaces where young people can build resilience and thrive. Through this next chapter of support, Boys & Girls Clubs of America will equip more staff and Club leaders with specialized training to address youth emotional well-being, manage stress and foster positive development.
“Supporting kids and families is central to our commitment at Kohl’s, because we know that feeling safe and supported is foundational to a child’s success,” said Jennie Kent, Kohl’s chief legal and corporate affairs officer. “We are proud to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to invest in the emotional well-being of young people nationwide, equipping staff with the tools to foster resilience and help kids navigate today’s challenges with confidence.”
Meeting the Growing Need for Youth Well-Being
Creating safe spaces offers crucial support for young people navigating daily challenges. CDC data shows that more than 40% of young people deal with persistent sadness or stress, creating a critical need for positive youth environments. Boys & Girls Clubs serve as trusted safe spaces, with 91% of Club youth reporting they have an adult at their Club to talk to about their problems. Through Kohl’s support, Boys & Girls Clubs of America is expanding its trauma-informed curriculum across the country, following recent regional sessions where 100% of participating Clubs felt better prepared to support their youth.
“Trauma-informed Boys & Girls Clubs create safer, relationship-centered environments where young people feel seen, heard, and valued,” says Kate Endries, National Director of Trauma-Informed Practice for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Through Kohl’s support, Clubs nationwide are strengthening staff practices, promoting well-being, and creating conditions for youth to thrive.”
A Long-Term Commitment to Shaping Brighter Futures
Building on an eight-year commitment to trauma-informed care, this investment marks the latest milestone in Kohl’s longstanding partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Since 2017, Kohl’s has donated over $21 million to support more than 4,700 local Clubs nationwide, helping Boys & Girls Clubs reach more than 4 million young people annually. In 2026, that support included back-to-school shopping grants, physical health and wellness grants for active play spaces, associate volunteering at local Clubs across the country, and continued sponsorship of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Regional Youth of the Year events, which celebrate exceptional youth leaders nationwide.
Funding for the partnership is made possible through Kohl’s Cares® Goods for Good™ merchandise collections, which donate 100% of net profit to nonprofits supporting family health and wellness initiatives nationwide.
