Fear of Flying App ReadytoFly Combines Personalized Preparation With In-Flight Support

Using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), ReadytoFly pairs personal preparation with offline flight support.

Statistics answer whether flying is safe. The fear is usually asking something else.”

— Martin Davalos, Founder of ReadytoFly

NEWARK, NJ, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — ReadytoFly is an iPhone app designed to help people prepare for the parts of flying they find hardest and know what to do during difficult moments on board. It combines a personal program based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with explanations of common flight sounds and sensations, guided flight-day support, and exercises available in airplane mode.

For some people, flying becomes difficult when the aircraft leaves the ground. For others, the hardest part is the closed cabin door, an unfamiliar sound, or the weeks of anticipation before departure. ReadytoFly connects those concerns to preparation and practical responses, with the aim of making the next flight more manageable and building confidence over time.

The app organizes support around five recurring fear patterns: distress about flight sensations; feeling confined or unable to leave; worry about becoming overwhelmed; interpreting a bad feeling as a warning; and difficulty trusting the people and checks behind a flight. These patterns draw on research into fearful flyers’ online conversations. Several concerns can overlap in one person.

Preparation and support through the flight

ReadytoFly brings together short daily sessions, thought exercises, and practical skills for use before and during a flight. CBT exercises help users examine worried predictions and consider alternative interpretations. ACT practice helps them respond to uncomfortable thoughts and feelings while continuing toward the things they want to do.

Preparation includes guidance for the night before departure and the morning of the flight. The flight-day companion provides sessions for stages from getting ready at home through the airport, boarding, takeoff, time in the air, descent, and arrival. Explanations make common cabin sounds and sensations more familiar, while breathing and grounding exercises provide actions to follow in the seat.

Downloaded sessions play in airplane mode. Breathing and grounding tools also work without a connection. The online guide requires internet access. After landing, reflection helps users notice what happened, what helped, and what they want to carry into the next trip.

Built from personal experience

Founder Martin Davalos grew up flying and has taken hundreds of flights. His experience changed after severe turbulence on a flight across the Himalayas when he was 18.

“Knowing the facts did not make flying feel easy for me,” said Davalos. “I wanted help for the experience itself: the thoughts before departure, the sensations on board, and what to do when it got difficult. That is what we built ReadytoFly around.”

Dr. Javier Vega Carranza, MD, helped shape the structure of the program’s modules. ReadytoFly is an educational wellness program and does not replace professional care. It does not promise that every flight will feel easier than the last.
