More than 100 community members gathered at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena last week to learn more about Southern California Edison’s Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program and connect with neighbors who have gone through the program.
The gathering reflects continued interest in the voluntary program, with August seeing more claim submissions than any other month in 2026.
“The questions we heard reflect the important decisions individuals and families are making as they move forward with their recovery,” said Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, SCE’s parent company. “Hearing directly from participants who have gone through the program provided valuable perspective for those evaluating their options.”
As of Sept. 17, 2026:
- Nearly 4,800 claims submitted, consisting of almost 14,600 individuals, trusts and legal entities, with 39% submitted by attorneys or authorized representatives.
- More than 2,700 offers extended to over 6,700 claimants, totaling nearly $950 million.
- Nearly 3,600 claimants paid, totaling more than $500 million, with many more in process.
Just over two months remain to submit a claim. Eligible community members who have not yet participated are encouraged to submit a claim by Nov. 30, 2026, so they can fully explore the compensation options available to them. Filing a claim does not waive a claimant’s rights. Receiving and evaluating an offer does not waive rights either.
Top Five Question Themes
Attendees asked questions about five key areas:
1. Compared with Litigation. Court proceedings are lengthy and uncertain. There’s no assurance a claimant will receive more through a lawsuit or a traditional resolution program, which requires substantially more documentation, time and expense. The Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program is designed to offer compensation in line with settlement values for similar claims in past wildfire lawsuits, with a more streamlined and faster approach than litigation. In fact, some claims from 2017 and 2018 fires, which involved significantly fewer plaintiffs than the Eaton Fire, are still pending today.
2. Compensation Calculations. There are many forms of compensation available through the program, including economic loss (for property damage, business interruption and physical injury), non-economic loss (for personal impacts), a Direct Claim Premium (for participating in the program) and compensation for legal expenses (for those represented by counsel). Some components of the program, such as the Direct Claim Premium, are not available through a lawsuit or traditional resolution program. This premium allows claimants to capture the savings of avoiding the more costly litigation process. Learn more about how payments are calculated and see sample offers.
3. Claim Timing and Status. On average, SCE is delivering offers in 36 days following submission of a substantially complete claim. Many claimants are receiving payment in as little as two to three weeks after all conditions in the settlement agreement are satisfied. Claimants can check the status of their claim by replying to email correspondence or calling 888-912-8528.
4. Eligibility. Program eligibility includes owners and tenants of eligible properties, as well as minors and adult children who were living with them at an eligible property. Businesses are also eligible and can request a Detailed Review if the streamlined formula does not adequately capture their losses. See the full list of who is eligible to submit a claim.
5. Rebuilding. SCE remains committed to supporting Altadena’s recovery by providing in-person assistance at the Altadena Rebuild & Community Hub (ARCH), one-on-one support through its dedicated Disaster Recovery Support Line at 800-250-7339 and on-demand resources at on.sce.com/altadena.
